Points
Discussed/Highlighted
The Chairman called the meeting to order at
1630
Attendees’ issues – many of the
students studying in the evening classes work during the morning hours. After
doing a survey of a fair number of students in our college, many students
complained that the main reason that many students arrive late to class during
the afternoon/evening shift is due to their morning work shift. This is because
many students are not given the approval to leave their work premises on time
as most of them are not as lucky as the rest of their fellow colleagues. The
rest of the students complained that the other obstacle is our student parking lot as its has been designed
specifically to give the students a hard time in traveling between lanes, not
forgetting students violating the parking rules by parking their cars in the wrong
parking areas which adds to the misery to our law-abiding students. Other
students mentioned that due to their work in oil fields or chemical industries,
they need to get back home and take a shower before coming to college which
usually delays their arriving by 45 minutes.
Student/Academic
Service Recommendations
1. We got various interesting ideas
about recommendations varying from changing the timings of afternoon/evening
classes by adding 30 to 45 minutes on the 1st class starting at 3.00
rather than the 2:20 which has been the system in this college for the past 9
years.
2. Automated finger-mapping machines
which take the exact attendees’ time of arrival to each class by placing their
fingers in the machine rather than the teacher taking the attendance himself,
therefore the student will know that this is an automated monitored system and
there won’t be any manipulation.
3. Entertainment for students by
building squash, tennis, badminton courts in order to make the students enjoy
their time if they have any long breaks between classes rather than leaving the
college premises and coming back which might get them late due to traffic or
finding parking in college.
4. To provide the Academic Services and
higher management with the budget required with regards to the automated
machines and recreational facilities and a study on how this solution will effectively
decrease the absence of students in the future.
The Chairman thanked the meeting and closed
proceedings at 1700.
